Integral to Elevate Multi Academy Trust (Elevate) and its Academies values and vision is that our children, staff and families are at the heart of everything we do. One of the ways we accomplish this is by each and every person in the Trust being committed to ensuring the welfare and safety of all our children.

Elevate and its Academies strive to ensure that consistent and effective safeguarding procedures are in place to support families, children and staff throughout the Trust.

In line with Keeping Children Safe in Education 2019 and other safeguarding legislation and DFE resources, Elevate has implemented policies and procedures which empowers its Academies to deal effectively with child protection and safeguarding issues, including tackling radicalisation and extremism, together with robust recording and monitoring processes.

Ofsted’s Inspecting safeguarding in early years, education and skills settings, May 2019 defines safeguarding as:

  • protecting children from maltreatment;
  • preventing impairment of children’s health or development;
  • ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care;
  • taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.


‘When inspecting safeguarding, inspectors will need to use their professional judgement about the extent to which arrangements in a setting are having a positive impact on the safety and welfare of children and learners.’

Elevate’s aim is to achieve and sustain this.

Recruitment: To promote a safe environment for children, Elevate and its Academies employ a strict selection and recruitment policy and process which includes statutory checks on staff and regular volunteers including enhanced DBS (disclosure and barring service) checks, barred list checks and if appropriate, S.128 checks.

From the moment a person joins Elevate they receive training appropriate to their safeguarding responsibilities. Thereafter, they continue their training and support from Elevate and outside agencies. Other safeguarding training is attended by relevant staff and governors. The training is monitored and recorded by the DSL.

Any concerns are passed through the Designated Safeguarding Lead and Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, in line with HM ‘sharing of information’ guidance July 2018. The Trust is also informed and kept updated. Referrals are logged and monitored to make sure they are followed up appropriately.

Attendance: Children’s attendance is monitored closely and concerns shared as appropriate with parents or carers, North Yorkshire or Leeds Prevention Service, Social Care and the Academy Safeguarding team. Elevate and its Academies work effectively with other agencies and parents or carers when necessary to safeguard the children.

Educating children about safeguarding: Children are taught on line safety and safeguarding in an age appropriate way through opportunities raised in our broad and diverse curriculum, extra-curricular activities, PSHCE and assemblies. This allows children the chance to experience life, acquire knowledge, understanding and skills that significantly impact on their personal development, behaviour and well being. This includes ensuring children know where to go for help.



If you have any serious concerns about your child, another child or a member of staff at any of Elevate’s Academies please do not hesitate to contact the Academy’s Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL). They will be able to provide you with the best advice and help using the appropriate degree of confidentiality.


The Trustees are ultimately responsible for the safeguarding of the Trust. They have delegated certain responsibilities to the local governing bodies (LGB).


Both ensure:  that the policies, procedures and training in Elevate and its Academies are effective and comply with the law. 

                    :  that all required policies relating to safeguarding are in place and that this Child Protection and Safeguarding policy reflects statutory and local guidance and is reviewed at least annually.

The DSL takes lead responsibility for managing child protection referrals, leads safeguarding training and raising awareness of all child protection policies and procedures, ensures that everyone in the Academy (including temporary staff, volunteers and contractors) is aware of these procedures and that they are followed at all times; acts as a source of advice and support for other staff (on child protection matters); ensures that timely referrals to the Customer Contact Centre/LADO are made in accordance with current procedures and works with the Local Authority and other agencies as required. 

The Trust carries out an external safeguarding review when a school joins Elevate and thereafter every 3 years; the LA audit is completed bi annually and an internal review completes the 3 year cycle. Regular reports are made to the Trustees and LGBs.
